SFO West Entrance Building
A unified terminal gateway – SFO’s front door before the International Terminal era.

Completed in 1986, the San Francisco International Airport West Entry Building served as the primary passenger gateway to SFO prior to the construction of the International Terminal. Designed by Group 4 Architecture with Robin Chiang as Principal Architect, the project established a unified front door to the airport, integrating passenger processing, ticketing, and baggage facilities within a clear and efficient architectural framework. The design emphasized openness, daylight, and intuitive circulation, creating a modern civic presence that bridged landside access with the terminal complex.
The West Entry Building set the stage for future airport development by introducing a cohesive architectural language and organizing strategy that informed later expansions, including the International Terminal.
