SFMTA 4th and Brannan Surface Station

Robin Chiang & Company (RCCo) served as Architect for the 4th & Brannan Surface Station, part of the SFMTA Central Subway light rail extension. Located in the center of 4th Street’s right-of-way, the new surface station provides weather-protected passenger platforms for the MUNI T Third Line. The design builds on the precedent of SFMTA’s 3rd Street Light Rail stations, but updates the system with more efficient lighting, simplified canopy detailing, and improved material performance.

RCCo coordinated closely with SFMTA and the City’s public art program to integrate the station’s art component, enhancing the passenger experience while maintaining a clear, functional, and durable streetscape presence.
