Pleasanton Senior Center is set in a small park across from a major seniors housing project. The 20,000 square foot center features a main hall for 400, commercial kitchen, arts room, dance room, billiards room, library, gift shop, transit office, administration and lobby-lounge. An adult day care wing has been designed around a central sun room. It has its own garden with raised planters that double as seating and shrubs selected for color, fragrance and texture.
The grand building is the result of numerous committee and community meetings where several plans and exterior designs were compared. Robin Chiang designed the building in a quasi-Georgian style with many openings and clerestory windows to bring sunlight into the larger central spaces.
