Mission Bay and San Francisco’s Future

The south side of the Mission Creek Park was designed by the landscape architecture firm, EDAW, in association with a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and biologists. Thus far, the 3.2-acre linear park has a pavilion with a café and terrace, an outdoor amphitheater, a meandering soft trail; sculpture mounds, and open lawn areas for passive recreation.

New plantings on the slope and bank provide visual continuity along the edge of the creek and host various species of waterfowl. The view east includes the first China Basin Building remodeled in 1973.

The view to the north across the creek shows the plaza at the end of 5th Street flanked by Berry Street buildings. The nine-story tower on the left is the high point of the Arterra complex designed by Kwan Henmi and completed in 2008. Union Square, the heart of today’s downtown, is about ten blocks north.
